A bridge is a permanent solution for missing teeth, It is a fixed partial denture used to replace missing teeth and preserve correct alignment in the mouth. There are three types of dental bridges: traditional bridges, Cantilever bridges, and Maryland bridges. A traditional bridge can be made from gold, porcelain or other alloys. A traditional bridge consists of a false tooth, or pontic, fused between two crowns. These crowns are placed on the healthy teeth on each side of the missing tooth. A Cantilever bridge is similar to a traditional bridge but uses one crown instead of two. This type of bridge is used when there is only one healthy tooth next to the missing tooth. A Maryland does not use crowns to anchor the false tooth. Instead, the false tooth is fused to sturdy metal bands that are bonded to the back of the existing teeth.
